Abstract: As reported in these proceedings, recent research and development efforts have resulted in improvements in the projected process economics and efficiency for recovering liquid fuels from eastern shale. Significant progress has been made in broadening both the data base on eastern shales and the range of shales that can be commercially viable resources. Papers are sorted under the following subject areas: tar sands; environmental and reclamation research; geology, geochemistry, and analytics; and projects and process technology research. Papers have been index separately for inclusion on the data base.
