Abstract: This research deals with revealing the meaning of "dark chain of transmission" according to some of the scholars of jarh and ta'deel.It also identifies the narrators who were judged by Imam al-Dhahabi and Ibn Hajar to have dark chains of transmission through the tongue and the scale, explaining the reason for that.The study concludes the dark chain of transmission is the one that cannot be authenticated because it contains more than one narrator described by one of the defective attributes that would weaken the narrators and drop their narration.Further, it concludes that there is a difference in the concept of the meaning of "dark" among modern critics, and that the dark chain of transmission comes from bad memorization and many errors.Moreover, the term dark chain of transmission indicates the situation as a metaphor.This research was organized into an introduction, two sections, and a conclusion that included conclusions and some recommendations.
