Neuraminidase construction and function

Year: 2022
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Neuraminidase has been of interest for many years as a potential candidate for a universal influenza vaccine. This is due to the limited mutation on the head domain of the protein, specifically the active site where the enzyme lies. There were two primary objectives of this project. The first was to establish that equine antibodies bound to neuraminidase regardless of subtype. The second was to create a working/functional exogenous neuraminidase tetramer protein without its transmembrane domain region. This was done by creating a plasmid, with the neuraminidase gene, and constructing a baculovirus that could be used in transfection of HiFi cells. These cell types are responsible for producing the exogenous protein.
