Wcn24-1894 Pediatric Kidney Damage Is an Emerging Concern in Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (ckdu) Endemic Communities Globally: a Comprehensive Systematic Review
Year: 2024
Type: review
Abstract: Chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) is a tubulointerstitial disease that disproportionately affects young, primarily male, agricultural workers in Mesoamerica and South Asia who lack traditional risk factors for kidney disease. Extensive research in adult populations suggests the etiology is multifactorial and indicates that early childhood exposures could have an integral role. Evaluating subclinical kidney disease in children is important both for identification of prevention strategies and to understand relevant exposures.
