Frugal Innovation in Developing a Fertilizer Sprayer—A Case of an Ingenious Design in Maharashtra

Year: 2024
Type: other
Abstract: India, for long, has been known as an agricultural country. While the country prides itself on its rich heritage and long-standing consistency in agricultural commodities, its woes are growing by the day. A key requirement for every farmer is spraying adequate and necessary fertilizer to protect and promote crop output from time to time. The right usage of fertilizers is known to enhance the nutrient constituents in the soil apart from positively impacting the output. Even in cases where farmers have access to the right fertilizer, spraying the same has its unique set of challenges—the equipment required, even spraying, time consumption, and the labor required for this. What is the status of a humble farmer who cannot afford expensive equipment for this purpose? Tired of the above-described scenario, a young farmer—proud of his profession, a native of Maharashtra—has developed an ingenious solution that can address the problem and offer visible improvement to such farmers. This research effort presents a case study on this specific fertilizer sprayer which is affordable and reduces the huge effort for farmers due to its design, sense, and efficiency in delivering value on the farmland.
