Abstract: Recommendations H aving celebrated its 60th anniversary recently, the MIKIW Meeting-in-Miniature is an annual medicinal chemistry conference hosted by the Departments of Medicinal Chemistry/ Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Universities of Minnesota, Illinois-Chicago, Kansas, Iowa, and, as of 2018, Wisconsin. The conference rotates annually between Minneapolis/St.Paul, Chicago, Lawrence, Iowa City, and Madison.MIKIW typically occurs over a weekend, and it is organized by students from the host university. Each school nominates speakers to present oral and poster presentations, which are judged by faculty members from the participating schools. The organizing committee plans opportunities for students and faculty members from the universities to network at social gatherings, and a distinguished medicinal chemist from academia or industry provides a keynote lecture. The event typically occurs in April and punctuates the Midwestern U.S. winters, providing an opening for a summer of productive research.Given the strengths of its individual departments, the MIKIW Meeting-in-Miniature has been at the forefront of academic medicinal chemistry since its inception. It has had a longstanding relationship with the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters, where much of the work presented at the MIKIW meetings has been published over the years. The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters are pleased to present this Virtual Special Issue, "Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the MIKIW Meeting-in-Miniature".The Virtual Special Issue has several outstanding submissions, and we have grouped them here according to a few themes.
