Abstract: In France, psychological difficulties during the 2020 Covid-19 health crisis quickly became a particular concern among health professionals in hospital facilities. The situation in Residential facilities for the dependent elderly and among non-healthcare professionals has not been studied much. This article reports on the problems encountered by caregivers and non-caregivers working in nursing homes in one of the areas most affected by the first epidemic wave in France. It is based on a survey using a mixed-methods investigation. It explores the variety of problems encountered by professionals, their potential effect in terms of psychological distress, the mechanisms of their regulation and the structural social factors that could be involved. These results invite us to think differently about the issues surrounding psychological suffering following the pandemic and the levers for its prevention.
