Preserved antibody responses to COVID-19 vaccination and lower odds of developing COVID-19 in adults with severe asthma
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Studies show that patients with severe asthma (SA) may be at a higher risk of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).1 Treatment of SA includes high-dose inhaled corticosteroids (H-ICSs), which has not been shown to affect postvaccination antibody titers against SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.2 Between 20% and 60% of patients with SA worldwide are dependent on maintenance oral corticosteroids (mOCSs),3 which in some autoimmune diseases lead to impaired vaccine immunogenicity.4 Many patients with SA receive biologics targeting type-2 inflammation.
