Optimal Blood Pressure Control for Optimal Longevity: Balancing Cardiovascular and Cognitive Outcomes
Year: 2024
Type: editorial
Abstract: Managing blood pressure is a cornerstone of preventive medicine, playing a critical role in reducing cardiovascular disease and protecting against cognitive decline. 1 Even a small reduction in average blood pressure at the population level can yield substantial public health benefits.2 Effective blood pressure management not only helps to prevent major devastating consequences such as heart attacks and strokes but also reduces the subclinical chronic strain on the cardiovascular system.3 This is particularly important in older adults, among whom the prevalence of hypertension exceeds 65%.
