Modulation of gut microbiome pathway abundance by dealcoholized muscadine wine and correlation of gut microbes with skin health parameters
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Our previous study showed that consumption of dealcoholized muscadine wine (DMW) for six weeks improved some skin health parameters (e.g. elasticity) in women over 40 in a randomized, single-blinded, cross-over, placebo-controlled trial. The “gut-skin axis” hypothesis suggests that the gut microbiome affects skin health, however, experimental evidence is lacking. Therefore, the current study explores possible modulation of gut microbiome by DMW and correlations between gut microbes and skin health parameters.
