Year: 2024
Type: editorial
Abstract: It has been recognized for over 50 years that once severe aortic stenosis (AS) becomes symptomatic, if left untreated, the symptoms will progress leading to early mortality.1,2 Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) became common to treat this condition, with many technical improvements and improved outcomes.3 This offered many patients improved quality of life and prolonged survival. Another major step forward occurred in the early 21st century with the development of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
