Time-Restricted Eating: Microbiome, Metabolic Health, and Bone (TREMBO) Study Protocol
Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Study Protocol
Abstract: Objectives: The majority of Americans are overweight or obese and eat over ≥ 12 hours a day. Calorie restriction (CR) causes weight loss (WL) and improves obesity-related outcomes, however, WL in older adults negatively affects bone. In addition, eating for ≥ 12 hours can disrupt the circadian rhythm. Circadian disruption is correlated with weight gain, gut dysbiosis, and osteoporosis. Time-restricted eating (TRE) can restore circadian synchronicity and may positively affect health outcomes. To date, no TRE studies have been designed to examine bone as a primary outcome.
