WOOP VA Study Protocol: Testing a Novel Imagery Intervention for Weight Management in Primary Care
Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Study Protocol
Abstract: Objectives: Multicomponent weight management programs like the VA’s MOVE! program are effective but often have low enrollment and high attrition rates. Poor motivation is a key psychological barrier to enrollment, engagement, and weight loss. Mental Contrasting with Implementation Intentions (MCII) is an innovative imagery technique that increases motivation for behavior change. MCII has proven to increase physical activity, consumption of fruits and vegetables, and exercise program attendance, but few studies have tested its effectiveness for weight management.
