Research on ignition matching for magnesium-based water ramjet engines
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The ignition matching issue of water ramjet engines (WREs) is the main topic of this research, which also examines the impact of several engine parameters on ignition process and performance, including primary water injection angle, primary water-fuel ratio, igniter mass, and igniter position. Based on the above specified parameters, a multiphase flow computational model of the water ramjet engine's ignition process was created. The study results suggest that the ignition performance of the engine is greatly influenced by the primary water-fuel ratio, igniter mass, and igniter location. However, it is not found that the water injection angle plays a crucial role in the engine's igniting process. The equilibrium temperature of the combustion chamber exhibits a tendency of first rising and then lowering when the primary water-fuel ratio rises,it is concluded that 0.55 is the best primary water-fuel ratio. A suggested criteria was put up to ascertain the eligibility of a WRE to transition into the self-sustained combustion phase. The ignition criteria are established by using the link between the mass of the igniter charge, its location, and the surface area of the propellant burning surface. The model calculates that the engine will not extinguish only as this amount surpasses 46.65.
