Experimental Study on the Performance of Geopolymer Concrete With Various Binders and Activators
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Geopolymer is an inorganic alumina Silicate Polymer concrete synthesized from alkaline activation of various alumina-silicate materials of geological origin or by-product materials like silica fume, fly ash, and ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS) .Comparing to ordinary cement concrete, Geopolymer concrete has relative higher strength, excellent volume stability, and better durability with lower impact on the environment.Binding property of this concrete is achieved through "geopolymerization" process resulting three dimensional polymeric chain and ring structure consisting of Si-O-Al-O bonds, so the concrete is named as Geopolymer Concrete.Polymerization assisted by applied heat followed by drying.Slag based geopolymer concrete save 43% less energy than conventional concrete. The various ingredients of Geopolymer concrete are Fly ash, Silica Fume, GGBS, Fine aggregate, Coarse aggregate , Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Silicates and Super plasticizers.Experimental study on the performance of Geopolymer concrete primarily focuses on the influence of molarity at a particular Alkali to Binder ratio(0.4)& Sodium hydroxide to Sodium silicate ratio(0.5)with various binders composition at which Geopolymer concrete give better performance on its potential application.
