Abstract: Thin-walled structures come forward as the most important passive safety element used in energy absorption. Filling the interior spaces of these structures with different materials to increase their energy performance is the most important opinion. For this aim, in this study, the crashworthiness performance of the tubes filled simultaneously with both cellular structure and pressurized air under quasi-static loading conditions were investigated by taking into account internal pressure, tube-wall thickness, and deformation modes. The experimental tests revealed the crushing force response improvement by the effects of the filler materials in the tube gap. With these effects, the absorbed total energy increased by 2.04 and 3.77 times for pressurized and pressurized filled tubes with respect to the empty ones, respectively. Also, this improvement is similarly noticed in crush force efficiency values, the CFE value reached 98.9% for pressurized filled tubes.
