Abstract: English summary Biological effects of dental adhesive systems Nor Tannlegeforen Tid. 2024; 134: 598-603. The development of dental adhesive systems started more than 70 years ago but first became common in the 80s. In modern operative dentistry, adhesive techniques are central, and the materials are used in a wide range of treatment methods. Adhesive systems are a group of very complex materials with great variation in chemical composition, and method of use. The systems used today are relatively easy to use, but one must be aware that many ingredients, such as acids and monomers, have a general toxic potential and may induce allergic disease. To best understand the adverse effect potential of the materials, it is therefore vital to be aware of the ingredients and exposure risks for patients and dental health personnel. With good knowledge of this, you also have a good tool to minimize exposure and thus the risk of harmful effects.
