The Coinage of Maḥmūd b. Sebüktegin: Overview and Update of the Monetary History
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The reign of the Ghaznavid emir Maḥmūd b. Sebüktegin (388–421/998–1030) was a turning point in the monetary history of the Iranian territories. The innovations introduced by his father were maintained and further spread thanks, above all, to the numerous military conquests that resulted in an increase in the number of mints. In this study, we offer a summary of his main issues, new readings and contexts of legends on bronze coins and an overview of the official protocol of this ruler.
