Abstract: Effect of conditioning on the choice of TBM Einfluss der Konditionierung auf die Wahl der TBMA section of the Flachgau tunnel on the new Köstendorf -Salzburg railway line is to be continuously driven, using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) due to the geotechnical and hydrological conditions. In addition to the geotechnical suitability of a TBM, the classification and treatment of the excavated material in accordance with the legal requirements also play an important role.Process-related effects of Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) or Slurry Shield tunnelling (SLS), as well as the different compositions of conditioning agents, can significantly affect the classification and treatment of the excavated material. This article describes the actions and investigations that were necessary during the planning submission phase for the new Kostendorf -Salzburg line to comply with the Austrian Railway Act (EisbG) in order to develop a sound basis for decision-making for the subsequent selection of the TBM.Crucially, the focus is not merely on the sampling of initial materials, but on the process-induced capture and replication of material flows.
