Abstract: Testimony in Chile referring to the recent traumatic past (1973-1990) comprises a vast anddiverse universe. This article emphasizes the visual corpus, specifically, the arpilleras andthe drawings made in prison. It is admitted that the spatial value of the representationsfulfilled certain social functions. Through the landscape, it is proposed that these visualtestimonies helped to recompose and represent the subjectivities of the victims of thedictatorship. Methodologically, testimony is defined from its general notions in order tothen operationalize its use in the visual realm. Thus, we seek to articulate a theoreticalframework on and for the image, perfectly applicable to other works. Later, we willdescribe the general specificities of the corpus. Then, three paradigmatic examples areanalyzed. According to these, two subcategories of analysis emerge: Participation andcommunity solidarity; and Recreational activities. Finally, we hope to recognize imagesthat account for the spatial substratum of the facts and to widen, with a less recurrent look, the resources of memory.
