Race/ethnicity does not impact surgical management or clinical outcomes among insured patients with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans

Abstract: To the Editor: Given the rarity of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), there is limited literature exploring the impact of race/ethnicity on clinical outcomes. Previous studies suggest that individuals of Black race exhibit worse survival outcomes. However, these analyses were constrained in scope, encompassing both uninsured and insured patients and focusing only on patient populations categorized as “Black” or “White.”1,2 Given the potential confounding effect of insurance status and limited demographic representation, we sought to examine the epidemiology, treatment characteristics, and clinical outcomes among a racially diverse cohort of insured individuals diagnosed with DFSP.
