The Convergence of Cultures as a Problem of Poetics (v. Ivanov, the Poetical Cycle “rosarium”)
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The article analyzes the structure, genre repertoire and sources of the motif of “roses” in the poems of the V. Ivanov’s cycle “Rosarium” (a part of his book “Cor Ardens”). The special role of A.N. Veselovsky’ article “From the Poetics of the Rose” is noted. The structure of the cycle clearly implements the symbolist principle of “correspondences” (“one through different” and “different as one”). The rose motif, which unites all the poems in the cycle, reveals a common deep foundation in different cultural traditions. At the same time, the combination of heterogeneous cultural traditions, the convergence of different cultures both in the juxtaposition of cycles and in the structure of individual poems becomes the leading and fundamental artistic technique in the cycle.
