Abstract: Competition-based efforts to improve student achievement have not borne fruit. Marion Brady argues that this is because such efforts do not address the problems with the current system of education, in which human knowledge is broken up into separate disciplines. He advocates a systems-based approach that focuses on how ideas and experiences relate to one another.
