Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Objective: The general objective of this study is to analyze the scientific production registered in the Scopus database of higher education institutions in the Dominican Republic, in order to evaluate its impact on the productive sectors of the country. Theoretical Framework: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is crucial for the economic growth and diversification of the Dominican Republic, supported by a favorable regulatory framework. Key sectors such as tourism, free trade zones, energy, and construction benefit significantly, consolidating the country as a regional leader in foreign investment. Method: A quantitative study was conducted on the scientific production of Dominican universities using Scopus data. Variables such as university, year of publication, geographic focus, gender, economic sector, SDGs and financing were collected and analyzed. SPSS was used for data analysis. Results and Discussion: The analysis of scientific production in Dominican universities shows a significant concentration in a few institutions, with a marked orientation towards international issues and global collaborations. However, the scarce collaboration between national universities and the low representation in strategic sectors such as energy and technology highlight the need for greater alignment with national priorities. Research Implications: The study highlights the need for equitable distribution of resources, greater alignment with national priorities, and better funding to maximize the impact of research on economic development. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the detailed analysis of Dominican scientific production in relation to economic sectors and SDGs, offering new perspectives to align research with national priorities.
