Change and driving factors of eco-environmental quality in Beijing green belts: From the perspective of Nature-based Solutions
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The green belts are important parts of urban spatial structure, which will significantly affect urban eco-environmental quality. “Nature-based Solutions (NbS)” measures provide a new means to solve urban sustainable problems. Taking Beijing green belts as the research object, this paper analyzed the change of eco-environmental quality and its driving factors, and focused on the driving effect of NbS measures. The results showed the following: 1) From 2005 to 2020, the process of land use change showed a trend of spreading from inside to outside, and reflected the characteristics of industrialization driving urbanization development. 2) The eco-environmental quality of the green belts showed a trend of first decline and then recovery. Notably, the first green belt experienced a relatively lower eco-environmental quality, persistently declining throughout the studied timeframe. 3) From the perspective of ecological contribution rate, the negative effect of land use change was stronger than the positive effect, resulting in an overall decline in eco-environmental quality. 4) This study confirmed the driving effect of NbS measures on the improvement of eco-environmental quality. Specifically, Green Infrastructure showed a significant driving effect of the two green belts, while Ecological Infrastructure only showed a significant driving effect in the second green belt. In light of these findings, future applications of NbS measures can be more precisely targeted to further enhance the resilience and sustainable development capacity of cities.
