EP24.39: Unexpected causes of moderate chronic pelvic pain in women: two cases of intra‐abdominal localisation of intrauterine contraceptive devices
Year: 2024
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: A study of two cases demonstrating ultrasound detection of intra-abdominal localisation of contraceptive devices and their correlation with endoscopic findings. We present two cases of ultrasound visualisation of intrauterine devices (IUDs) outside the uterus, in the pelvic cavity. In two patients with moderate chronic pelvic pain and “lost” IUDs, ones were detected in the abdomen cavity using ultrasound. Case 1: IUD located in the Douglas pouch and its presurgical ultrasound and endoscopic visualisation. Case 2: Uterine perforation and rectal penetration by the IUD and its presurgical ultrasound and endoscopic visualization. Simultaneous consideration of ultrasound and endoscopic images is important for diagnostic experience and the competence of the sonologist.
