EP09.50: Third trimester echocardiography in Gyncentrum IVF and prenatal diagnosis clinic Poland
Year: 2024
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: The aim of the study was to find what cardiac defects can be detected upon Echocardiography scan as late as during the time of third prenatal ultrasound. In Poland according to local recommendations the third prenatal scan is performed during 28-32 weeks of gestation of pregnancy. Among 10200 fetal echocardiography scans starting from 2011 in Gyncentrum Clinic all echocardiograms performed during the third trimester were assessed. Echocardiography was performed and assessed mainly with Voluson 22 And Voluson 20 GE Systems. Volumetry heart scans older than 2022 (with use of Voluson E10 and E8 Expert) were exported to new Volusons 20 and 22 to work on them again. Engineering software from Atemida Company was used to help to assess images and data. Among cardiac problems found on third trimester in our report we can find e.g.: acquired valvular aortic and pulmonary stenosis, evolving HLHS from severe AS, coarctation of aorta, hypoplastic aortic arch, small muscular VSDs, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, closure of Ductus Arteriosus, also some cases of TGA and DORV and other anatomical malformations were found not earlier as so late in pregnancy. About 15 per cent of all cardiac defects was detected at the time of the third trimester scan. Results show that Echocardiography at the time of the third trimester prenatal scan is very important during pregnancy. Due to bigger size of the heart, development and evolving cardiac structures throughout pregnancy many cardiac problems can be detected only yet at this period of pregnancy.
