EP07.72: Congenital cerebral vascular malformations: malformation and variable anatomy registry case series
Year: 2024
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: To scan for congenital brain vascular malformations in malformation and variable anatomy registry (MALFOVAR) in order to summarise types and burdens of congenital brain vascular malformations. We scanned the MALFOVAR registry for congenital brain vascular malformations. MALFOVAR is a multicentric multimodality registry situated in Budapest Hungary which is dedicated to the detection of congenital malformations. The period of examination was between the years 2007-2024. Altogether 613 cases were searched for cerebral vasculature anomalies. We isolated a total of 35 cases of cerebral vascular malformations. 26 cases of vein of Galen malformation, two cases of bilateral symmetrical carotid occlusion, one case of unilateral carotid occlusion and one case of schizencephaly. Further cases of: one case of dural fistula, one case of pia fistula, one case of middle cerebral artery aneurysm, one case of cavernous malformation and one case of cerebral capillary telangiectasia. Congenital brain vascular malformations are rare types of malformation. These Malformation have different clinical significance and may become evident from pregnancy to late adulthood. Some types of malformations are totally of unsignificant medical importance while other may have fatal consequences during pregnancy or immediately after birth (within few days). Multimodality harmonisation (US and MRI) is of superior value in detection and assessment of fetal cerebral vascular malformations and may have a crucial role in assessment of urgency of treatment after delivery such as type IV vein of Galen malformations. Prenatal detection of cerebral vasculature malformation is of significant importance specifically when immediate treatment is necessary after delivery. Further studies are required in order to increase detection of cerebral vasculature anomalies and try to determine which cases need early robust treatment to avoid bad/fatal outcomes.
