Abstract: The theory of evidence is a system of perspectives, ideas, and scientific reasoning concerning proof and evidence. It constitutes an independent component of the forensic science. This article provides a general overview of the history of the formation and development of evidence theories, illustrating the differences and specificities of each theory as well as their mutual influences and intersections. The article also addresses one of the most complex and academically significant issues within the theory of evidence – the concept of evidence, the attributes of evidence and their roles, along with the ongoing debates surrounding this topic.
