Abstract: The article gives a brief characteristic of the work of modern German author Judith Schalansky, analyses the composition and problematics of her narrative book "An Inventory of Losses". The author's graphic design finds in the decoration of the book, helping to comprehensively expose the declared theme of loss as an integral part of life, are noted. It is concluded that the stories presented in the book with all their genre diversity are united both by a common theme and associative threads by means of cross-cutting images and motives.
