Fog Computing: Basics, Key Technologies, Open Issues, And Future Research Directionss

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Fog computing is an increasingly important technology that aims to overcome the constraints of conventional cloud computing, especially in situations that need minimal delay, immediate data processing, and optimal bandwidth use. Fog computing is a distributed architecture that puts computational resources closer to the data source by extending cloud capabilities to the edge of the network. This article provides a thorough exposition of fog computing, beginning with its core principles and structure. The study also explores the current challenges encountered in the acceptance and execution of fog computing, encompassing concerns regarding security, allocation of resources, compatibility, and dependability of the system. Furthermore, it identifies potential areas for future research that can lead to progress in this field, including the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve resource management, the creation of standardized proto- cols, and the improvement of fault-tolerance mechanisms. It highlights how fog computing has the potential to transform data processing and service delivery in environments where cloud solutions are inadequate. The objective of this study is to establish a basis for scholars and practitioners who are interested in investigating the extensive possibilities of fog computing within the changing field of distributed systems.
