First record of the rare tubeshoulder Holtbyrnia anomala Krefft 1980 ( Teleostei, Platytroctidae ) in the southwest Atlantic

Abstract: Holtbyrnia anomala is a bathypelagic platytroctid widely distributed in the Atlantic Ocean. In this contribution, we report, for the first time, the occurrence of this species in the tropical southwest Atlantic. A single specimen was collected in 2000 on the continental slope off Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at an average depth of 1158 m. This report also represents the first record of Holtbyrnia anomala in the Brazilian Economic Exclusive Zone.
