Abstract: We appreciate the interest of Weingarten, et al. in our research letter detailing our experience with intraoperative methadone at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. 1 Their primary concern was that intraoperative methadone safety is not well established due to the potential for respiratory depression. They also suggest that our study, as well as the existing meta-analyses, evaluating respiratory depression and intraoperative methadone administration are underpowered, given the low occurrence of respiratory depression.
