Incident Albuminuria and Ethnicity Among Adults With Diabetes in an Integrated Health Care System in the United States

Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Albuminuria is an early sign of diabetic kidney disease (DKD)1,2 and an independent predictor of cardiovascular mortality.3 However, few studies have examined the progression to albuminuria in ethnically diverse US populations. Among adults with diabetes and preserved kidney function, we observed higher albuminuria prevalence among Asian or Pacific Islander (PI) adults in aggregate, with prevalence higher for Filipino and Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander (NHPI), similar for Chinese and Southeast Asian, but lower for Japanese and South Asian adults than for White adults.
