Anisotropic spin-glass-like behavior in single crystal GdCo2B2

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: A high-quality single crystal of GdCo2B2 was successfully synthesized and subjected to a comprehensive investigation into its spin-glass characteristics. We conducted a systematic analysis of magnetization, aging effects, and the frequency-dependent AC susceptibility. Interestingly, we observed a clear distinction between the magnetization curves under low magnetic field conditions (0.001 T) for both the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) states. Furthermore, the crystal exhibited prolonged relaxation at 4 K. With an increase in frequency, the freezing temperature, Tf, also demonstrated a corresponding rise. Additionally, we explored the response of the crystal to alternating current (AC) susceptibility under different pressure conditions, up to 1.58 GPa. An in-depth analysis of the anisotropy of the spin-glass-like behavior in the in-depth single crystal was conducted, with a specific focus on the a-axis as the preferred direction of magnetization. The observed spin-glass-like behavior in this crystal can be attributed to the interplay between intricate ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) interactions, which are randomly distributed throughout the crystal structure.
