Oxygen atom activated ZIF-67/carbon cloth in plasma system for CO2 reduction

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: ZIF-67 in-situ grown on carbon cloth (CC) using a simple one-step method to synthetize ZIF-67/CC. Characterization results indicate that the unique high aspect ratio structure and cushion shaped cavity of ZIF-67 help to improve the specific surface area (SSA) for CO2 adsorption and to enhance the hydrophobicity of the electrode. The main reduction products of CO2 were formic acid and formaldehyde, with yields of 9.16 and 0.068 mmol·L-1 after 60 min reaction, respectively. The effect of free radicals in solution on CO2RR was in the following order: ·O2->H+>e->·OH. It is predicted that ·O2- is converted from O2 in the air and activates the material surface to form sufficient oxidation groups -OH, achieving efficient adsorption of CO2 and reducing the free energy of HCOO*, ultimately increasing the amount of reduced products. The addition of phenol to the solution also regulated the amount of ·O2- and thus increased the CO2RR activity.
