Effects of ecological control line on habitat connectivity: A case study of Shenzhen, China

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: In order to achieve sustainable urban development and protect important ecological patches and their connectivity, the ecological control line (ECL) has become an important policy instrument. In order to explore whether the ECL policy has effectively protected landscape connectivity, it is necessary to evaluate the implementation effect of the policy, and ecological network is an important method for analyzing regional landscape connectivity. Based on this, this study took Shenzhen as an example to analyze the distribution of important habitats based on species occurrence points, environmental factors and artificial neural network methods. Based on the minimum cumulative resistance model and the circuit theory model, the four-phase ecological networks of five species in 2000, 2010, 2015 and 2020 were constructed. On this basis, the effects and changes of ECL on habitat connectivity of species at Shenzhen, geographical zone and species’ zone scales were analyzed by using the double difference method. The results show that: (1) The number of ecological corridors and the area of ecological pinch points in Shenzhen decreased in the first ten years, but remained stable in the last ten years. (2) The delineation of ECL can promote the habitat connectivity of regional species. And with the passage of time, this promoting effect increases. The protection effect of high habitat quality zone is due to low habitat quality zone. (3) City managers can develop habitat connectivity conservation schemes for different species according to five habitat quality zones: high, mid-high, middle, mid-low and low.
