The Ai Privacy Paradox: A Comparative Analysis Of Eu And Us Approaches To Regulating Artificial Intelligence And Protecting Personal Data
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized industries but presents significant privacy challenges that current regulations struggle to address. This article compares the European Union (EU) and United States (US) approaches to AI regulation and data privacy, highlighting their efforts to manage the AI privacy paradox. The EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), while comprehensive, reveals gaps in addressing AI-related privacy issues, which the EU AI Act aims to fill.In contrast, the US lacks a unified federal AI framework, relying on sector-specific and state-level regulations.Initiatives like the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act signal progress but fall short of comprehensive governance. The article concludes that although emerging AIspecific laws represent progress, they are insufficient. The rapid development of AI underscores the need for a fundamental overhaul of privacy laws.Future efforts must integrate AI-specific concerns into privacy frameworks to balance data protection with technological innovation.
