Abstract: : The article tries to show that there are intransgressible barriers that we will never cross within the confines of science itself: first of all, we will not explain why the world is rational and why it exists at all. What is more, we will never go beyond knowing the relationships between objects of different types, and we will not be able to know their intrinsic nature. The main theses of this work are placed within the limits of broadly understood naturalism and metascientific considerations, according to which metaphysical ideas can be introduced into scientific research programmes as their leading basic heuristic ideas, which are then assessed on the basis of their fertility, and in turn, the scientific theories themselves can be metaphysically interpreted. Within such broadly understood naturalism, it makes sense to assume the rationality of the world and to search for the way in which this rationality manifests itself. However, it goes beyond naturalism understood in this way to state what is the source of this rationality.
