Abstract: Carbon serves as the fundamental molecular framework for life on Earth.Carbon compounds play a crucial role in regulating the planet's temperature, composing the nourishment that sustains life, and supplying the energy that drives our global economy. The majority of Earth's carbon is sequestered in rocks and sediments, while the remaining is distributed throughout the ocean, atmosphere, and within living organisms.Carbon constitutes approximately 18% of the human body, serving as a fundamental building block for essential compounds such as carbohydrates, fat and proteins.During photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon-di-oxide from the atmosphere, a process often referred to as "fixing" carbon.Part of this carbon is utilized for plant growth, while another portion is consumed in respiration, where sugars are broken down by the plant to release energy.Under normal conditions, nitrates present in the soil serve as a primary nitrogen source crucial for plant growth. These nitrates are typically converted into proteins within the plant at a rate that aligns closely with their absorption into the root system. This study reveals the amounts of carbon and nitrate present in the leaves of the plants Wrightia tinctoria, Pongamia pinnata, Carica papaya and Ananas comosus.Carbon was estimated by Loss on Ignition method and nitrates were estimated by phenol-di-sulphonic method. It helps in various fields including plant physiology, Ayurveda, Sidda, Homeopathy, Biotechnology, Bioremediation and Phytoremediation. The results of the study reveal that Wrightia tinctora, Carica papaya and Ananas comosus has got the same amounts of nitrates and Pongamia pinnata has lower nitrate content. The carbon content of Pongamia pinata is greater and is least in Ananas comosus.
