Do solar green roofs contribute to SDGs, fostering energy efficiency and environmental conservation?
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This research explores innovative approaches to improving building energy efficiency through roof enhancements across diverse climatic zones. Utilizing a meticulous methodology, the study assesses various strategies in four distinct locations. The findings reveal substantial energy savings: green roofs coupled with solar technology boast an average reduction of 23.41%, while reflective paint offers a 12.86% decrease. Solar gardens demonstrate a remarkable 22.91% drop in energy use. Notably, green roofs and solar gardens combined yielded the most significant savings, ranging from 29.57% to 46.30% across different locations. The cost analysis reveals reflective paint as the most cost-effective option, with a reduction cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh) ranging from $0.019 to $0.022. However, green roofs and solar gardens also display economic viability, with reduction costs per kWh falling between $0.014 and $0.020. This study highlights the importance of tailor-made strategies to optimize energy efficiency outcomes, offering valuable insights for urban planners and policymakers. Embracing these findings not only promises tangible energy savings but also paves the way for resilient and sustainable cities for future generations.
