Religio-Cultural Underpinnings of Gender and Reproductive Injustice and Their Impact on Women’s Agency in India
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Indian culture is steeped in patriarchy, influenced by religious teachings. These contribute to the socialization of women as submissive and subservient to men. Men socialized to dominate women engage in violence against women, and women who experience such violence experience challenges in responding to it. The women’s movement in India has an important role to play in engaging religious voices in a critical and constructive way.
