Abstract: Effective cost and budget management plays a crucial role in the construction industry, directly influencing the success and sustainability of projects. This article explores the relevance of these elements to the financial challenges faced by the construction sector, highlighting the need for a strategic approach in response to competitiveness, fluctuations in material prices and the growing demand for sustainable practices. The analysis of a case study on construction prices using as an example variations in budgets related to steel for the construction of a retaining wall in Teresópolis, highlighting the savings resulting from the careful analysis of supplier proposals. Common challenges in managing costs, budgets and purchasing are discussed, such as variations in prices, changes in project scope and the identification of suitable suppliers. The conclusion highlights the effectiveness of the supplier proposal analysis method, highlighting the general cost reduction and significant impacts on the material category, such as steel. This approach proves to be essential to promote economic efficiency and informed decision-making in project management in civil construction.
