Abstract: Cybercrime varies from hacking and identity theft to cyberterrorism and ransomware. It is a very serious threat to both national and international security and creates an economic impact due to financial loss, reputation damage, and threats to national security. The paper will discuss jurisdictional challenges and the mechanisms of international enforcement relevant in pursuing a case against cybercrime. It looks at challenges in defining and prosecuting cybercrime across jurisdictions, highlights inconsistencies within legal frameworks, and reviews the effectiveness of international treaties and enforcement mechanisms. This research has identified the lacuna and strengths of current practices through a legal review of key international agreements like the Budapest Convention and case studies of notable incidents of cybercrime. The results call for harmonized definitions, increased international cooperation, and better enforcement strategies as ways of dealing with the transnational nature of cybercrime. This study will also form a source of importance to politicians, lawyers, and international organizations on how national laws can be brought in line with international standards and how prevailing global efforts against cybercrime can be empowered.
