Decoding organic compounds in lava tube sulfates to understand potential biomarkers in the Martian subsurface
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Lipid biomarkers present in sulfate speleothems on lava tubes from Lanzarote, Canary Islands, support microbial activity in these settings and may work as analogs for lipid biomarkers in Martian volcanic environments, according to molecular, geochemical, and mineralogical characterizations.
