Home death as a negative indicator of end-of-life care in Brazil: author's response to Hong et al.
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Our investigation into population-based databases has sparked a timely discussion on the quality of end-of-life cancer care in Brazil, as detailed in the article “Exploring Factors and Trends in Place of Death by Cancer: A Population-Based Study in Brazil”1 published in The Lancet Regional Health—Americas. The availability of public datasets has enabled a comprehensive analysis of this critical issue. In response to points raised by Hong et al.,2 we clarify that the databases in Brazil are de-identified and anonymised, and there is no integrated national electronic health records system for detailed patient information.
