Accessory gallbladder with partial encasement by esophageal adenocarcinoma: A rare case report

Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Accessory gallbladders are rare congenital malformations of the hepatobiliary system. They are often incidentally diagnosed preoperatively or intra-operatively. We report a case of a 52-year-old man with an accessory gallbladder that was partially encased by esophageal adenocarcinoma. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of an accessory gallbladder diagnosed concurrently with esophageal adenocarcinoma. It is important for clinicians and radiologists to be cognizant of this anatomical malformation to avoid misdiagnoses and intra-operative complications.
