Current Evidence on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Implant Dentistry

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: particularly in determining edentulous areas and evaluation of bone dimensions. The study included the research on the application of AI in dental implant treatment utilizing images obtained from cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).The collaborative data showed an overall reliability of 83% for maxilla and 96% for mandible in recognizing edentulous areas for implant planning.Elgarba et al. 8 also performed a review aiming at the application of AI in preoperative dental implant treatment plans. They also evaluated the degree of automation of software used clinically for presurgical implant treatment plans. They found that time saving, accurate, and compatible division of anatomical landmarks found with AI helps in creating virtual patients. At present, the systems available for placing implants virtually showed varying degrees of automation. The study highlighted that till today, full automation procedure was neither registered nor validated scientifically.Currently available research on the role of AI in implant dentistry, although showing great potential, is still under development.More organized research utilizing AI in various aspects of implants is needed to prove its accuracy, efficacy, and applicability in implant dentistry.
