Peripheral Retinal Abnormalities and Retinal Detachment in Pathologic Myopia
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Pathological myopia is associated with changes in various structures of the eye, primarily the retina. Peripheral retinal degenerations are common findings in patients, and serious vision loss can develop as a result of retinal detachment, whether or not it occurs on a background of degeneration. The dynamic interaction between the retina and the vitreous plays an important role in the formation of degenerations and the development of retinal detachment with tears. A careful retinal examination that evaluates all quadrants during patient check-ups can prevent permanent vision loss by conducting risk analyses for observed degenerations and holes and taking appropriate precautions.
