Abstract: This descriptive-interpretative study analyzes the functioning of the political aspect of language in the translation of the composition Special, interpreted by Lizzo. It is based on the framework of the Historical Semantics of Enunciation (Guimarães, 2002, 2006, 2007b, 2018). Through the description of the enunciative space and the argumentative orientation, it was found that the political aspect is manifested throughout the enunciation, by the establishment of discursive memories related to racism, fatphobia, media, social exclusion, self-acceptance and Lizzo’s own history/path. These statements intertwine, retracing and re-signifying, transversely, the possibilities of constructed meanings. The political meaning is evidenced by the struggle and constant effort of the Speaker to define her space in the world, as well as the space of the minoritized groups (fat people, black people, and women) that she represents through self-affirmations, which challenge the established hierarchy and other exclusionary representations.
